Cratloe Gateway

The Community Council has applied for funding to proceed with a plan to turn an area on the approach into Cratloe into an aesthetically pleasing biodiversity rich entrance to the village.

Currently the piece of ground just to the right before the railway bridge, in front of the railway fence, is neglected willow scrubland. A plan to transform this into an area rich in high quality habitats for biodiversity has been drawn up.

The design contains:

a boundary low sandstone dry wall

a wildflower/ grassland meadow

native woodland tree planting

fluctuating pond and wetland area to accommodate drainage on the curve of the road near the railway bridge

When funding becomes available the work is planned to start in 2025 on a phased basis. This plan will follow through on the recommendations made in the Cratloe Biodiversity Action Plan 2022-2027.
