Time to start working on reducing our energy use.
We all know that we can’t continue using energy as we have in the past. Our Energy Master Plan shows us that as a community we are very high energy users and if the rest of the world was to use energy like us we would need multiple planets.

Climate Action – we are still going in the wrong direction
Well have been through a period of extreme weather, heatwaves, droughts, wildfires and floods and we are seeing the start of what could be a very violent hurricane season. There can’t be many people left who are still denying human created climate chaos, or who believe that we can take our time and slowly plan for change. For most people except the youngest among us, this year although being the hottest on record, is likely to be one of the coolest years we will experience in the rest of our lives. Scientists tells us that even if we stopped all emissions immediately that temperatures will continue to rise for a number of decades.
In Ireland we know we have been lagging behind in reducing our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, but most people believe we are making great strides in turning this around. Unfortunately recently published EU data for the first quarter of 2023 shows that while virtually of our EU partners, rich and poor, have managed to reduce their GHG emissions, we in Ireland are not getting to grips with the problem and are still going in the wrong direction at an ever increasing rate.
